• Increased Spreading of ROUTE ERROR Messages
  • Fact:

    When a node receives a ROUTE ERROR message: The broken link will likely affect its neighbor nodes also !!! Example:

  • Recall:

    The ROUTE ERROR message contain the broken link When a node received a Route Error message, the next action of the node is likely: Broadcast a ROUTE REQUEST message to search for a new route to the destination (Unless there is an alternate route found in the route cache)

  • Trick to increase the awareness of a broken link:

    When the node broadcast a ROUTE REQUEST message: The node will piggyback the broken link in the ROUTE REQUEST message (And the neighbor nodes will cache the broken link !!!)

    Example:

    Node A can alert its neighbors about the broken link CD in the ROUTE REQUEST:

    This trick along with the next trick, will:

    make more nodes aware of a broken link and prevent nodes to use a failed link
