uniquely:
- We invent/assign
a set of
logical host identifiers (= numbers)
- These identifiers/numbers are called: IP addresses
Each node is assigned a unique ID (IP address)

- A physical network address that
is unique per
network type
Example:
- An Ethernet address is
unique among
all Ethernet nodes
- A Token ring address is unique among all Token ring nodes
- An Ethernet address is
unique among
all Ethernet nodes
- A logical ("made up") IP address that is unique in the whole wide world !!
- A physical network address that
is unique per
network type

binary numbers !!!
- I use letters (symbols) to denote the type of addresses !!!
