(There are research on "multivalue digital logic" where input & output value take on more than 2 values, but they will not be discussed in this course)
- Combinatorial circuits:
output signals depend only on the (current) values of
the input signals (i.e., circuit does not use a feedback loop -
circuit does not have a "state" or "memory")

- Sequential circuits:
output signals depend both on the (current) values of
the input signals and on the (current) values of
the output signals (i.e., circuit has a feedback loop -
circuit has a "state" or "memory"!)
