Facilities

The Emory CS department offers world-class infrastructure and computing facilities for faculty and student research and education. Our shared computing resources are ably managed by our outstanding technical staff. They aim to meet all teaching needs while also providing the most effective support for different needs of our researchers.

Shared Memory Multiprocessor

The department maintains a shared memory, multi-processor system primarily suited for multi-threaded, CPU intensive programs. The computational server "euler" is a Microway system that has four Intel Xeon E5-4627 CPUs with 40 cores and 1 TB of memory; it is running Ubuntu Linux.

GPU Computing

The department maintains nine GPU servers suited for AI and Machine Learning.

The server "h100" is an Exxact server with eight H100 GPUs, each with 80 GB of RAM; an NVSwitch that provides all-to-all GPU communication; two Intel Xeon Gold 5418Y processors, a combined 48 cores and 96 threads; and 2TB of RAM.

The server "turing" is an Exxact server with eight Quadro RTX 8000 GPUs, each with 48 GB of RAM; two Intel Xeon 6248 processors, a combined 48 cores and 96 threads; and 768GB of RAM.

The server "hopper" is a Microway server with eight Titan RTX GPUs, each with 24 GB of RAM; two Intel Xeon Gold 6254 processors, a combined 36 cores and 72 threads; and 1.5 TB of RAM. The other six GPU servers are reserved for research projects for specific teams.

Compute Clusters

The department utilizes workstations from the teaching lab to form a compute grid. The pool of nodes normally includes 32 identical systems each with an Intel i7 CPU, 4 processor cores and 8 GB of memory; by arrangement, additional systems could be recruited to increase the total number of CPUs. High speed network switches are available to configure high-efficiency compute clusters.

Computing Laboratory

The department computing lab is located on the 3rd floor of MSC. A number of workstations are available for student use, and for in-lab classes with audio-visual facilities. Lab reps are available to assist with technical issues and general guidance.

The lab may be reserved in advance for teaching. Laboratory rules and hours are located here Computing Lab.

Other Resources

Storage for departmental servers and workstations is provided by a 8GB/sec Fiber Channel Storage Area Network and Jetstor arrays. Online daily backups are available to end users.

High capacity printing capabilities are available for academic needs (e.g. mid-terms and exams). In addition to support for department workstations, scan/print/fax equipment, and computational facilities; the department maintains its own file storage and network resources.

Wired and Wireless Networking

The department is served by two physical networks. Every faculty office has two active network ports connecting to our primary network, most other workspaces have one or more network ports.

University-supported "EmoryUnplugged" or "EmoryGuest" wifi networks are the primary modes of wireless networking. The wireless network [MathCS] is reserved for research use by department personnel.

In all cases, unless explicitly needed, user equipment should configure network parameters dynamically by using DHCP.
